Navajo Prep coasts past Wingate in straight sets to clinch District 1-3A tournament title

FARMINGTON — The Navajo Prep Lady Eagles coasted past Wingate in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) to clinch yet another District 1-3A volleyball tournament title tonight at the Eagles Nest in Farmington.

Prep pulled ahead by doing damage on counterattacks, which often led to easy points. The Lady Eagles also had plenty of key defensive stops up front.

Navajo Prep (15-7) now must wait and see where it'll be seeded in this year's 3A state volleyball tournament.

The brackets will be announced on Sunday night online at nmact.org.

Bloomfield reaches District 1-4A finals

The Lady Bobcats kept grinding for points and took down Kirtland Central in a five-set slugfest (21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13) in tonight's district tournament semifinals at Karlin Gym in Kirtland.

Bloomfield (12-9) will play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Miyamura for the district tournament title.

Farmington falls in five sets

The Lady Scorpions took the first two sets, but Eldorado stormed back the next three sets to win tonight's District 2-5A volleyball tournament semifinals match in Albuquerque.

It was the 12th time this season Farmington (8-14) engaged in a five-set match.
