Friday Night Live from Hutchison Stadium where Durango faces Piedra Vista

11:50 p.m. -- Reed McCarty made a huge defensive play for the Panthers, nearly bringing down QB Harms before an intentional grounding call put the ball back on the 31. Facing fourth and 29, the Demons got their pass picked off by Jacob Schrueder, and that's the game. We're headed down for quotes. PV's gonna win this one by a final of 14-13.

11:47 p.m. -- Vigil gets a first down for the Panthers, who may be on their final drive as the clock ticks inside four minutes. Ramsted picks up five on first down. Mora-Dotson brought down after a short gain. Third down pass play comes up incomplete to the outside. 2:59 left to play. Howell sacked for a 14-yard loss on fourth down, giving Durango the ball at midfield.

11:41 p.m. -- The Demons tried going for paydirt on the first play of their drive, instead coming up with an incomplete pass. Baruch gained five before a running play was called back on a holding call. Deep pass over the middle was nearly intercepted, bringing up fourth and 19 and a Demons punting situation. The Panthers will start this drive at the Demons 48 with 4:34 left on the clock.

11:36 p.m. -- On the ensuing drive, PV started from their own 10-yard line, Ramsted gained three yards on first down before Logan Howell gained 22 yards on a keeper out to the 37. The Panthers are now gaining small chunks of yards and getting time down on the clock as they approach midfield. A big TD run from Howell got called back on a penalty, then PV nearly coughed up the ball on an errant pitch, forcing third-and-14 from their own 45. Vigil got wide open down the middle of the field and couldn't make a catch on a perfect throw from Howell. PV punts with 5:53 left on the clock.

11:27 p.m. -- The Demons are churning down the field, using their strength of their offensive line to get yards on each carry. Jeric Baruch got 12 yards around the left end to get the ball inside the red zone. With the ball now inside the 1 yard line, Baruch gets into the end zone for a TD with 10:30 left in the fourth quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed and the Panthers lead 14-13.

11:22 p.m. -- Officially a 1 hour, 58-minute weather delay when the game resumed at 11:20 p.m. The Demons ran a pair of plays and gained three yards before the third quarter came to a close.

PIEDRA VISTA 14, DURANGO 7 (End of third)

11:15 p.m. -- Durango will have the ball when the game resumes momentarily, it's 3rd and 1 from the PV 44 yard line. The Panthers lead the game 14-7.

11:08 p.m. -- It's now a bit past 11 p.m., and there's an ominous sign that just came up on my Facebook feed. According to a sponsored ad by the NFHS, the PV vs. Durango football game is tomorrow (that's Saturday in newspaper terms) at 9 a.m.

By that rationale, either someone at the NFHS knows something that hasn't been yet formally announced, or the NFHS is just terrible in what they promote.

The teams are coming back onto the field now. It's 11:06 p.m. and they want a 15-minute warmup period. By my calculations, that's about a 2-hour delay.

10:45 p.m. -- It's well past the 10:34 projected start time, and we're still in a delay even though the rain has stopped and the lightning is a distant memory. The lights have been turned off, turned back on, then back off and now on again (and back off again) around the stadium. There are a few kids playing a pick-up game near the south end zone and there's a few people taking naps on the press box floor.

All in all, a fine way to spend a late Friday night.

10:05 p.m. -- We're still on delay here at the Hutch. Another 30 minutes. That means 10:34 p.m. is the possible restart time. We have some final scores.

FARMINGTON 26, Los Lunas 11. That's a huge win on the road for the Scorpions!

AZTEC 12, Bayfield 6 (Game called due to lightning)

BLOOMFIELD 43, Grants 0. Another big win for the Bobcats, who improve to 3-0.

The Bloomfield Bobcats jumped out to an early lead over Grants, with touchdowns from Jesse Seitzinger and Andrew Bair in the first quarter, rolling over the Pirates 43-0 Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.

Bloomfield improves to 3-0 on the season ahead of an important matchup on the road next weekend against one of the top-ranked Class 4A teams in the state in Albuqeurque Academy.

Quarterback Ryan Sharpe had a big night for Bloomfield, throwing a pair of touchdown passes as the Bobcats scored 28 points in the first quarter.

"I was real happy with the way we executed," said Bloomfield head coach Mike Kovacs. "The offensive line did a great job protecting the passer, the defense made big plays. It was a solid, all-around effort."

9:24 p.m. -- At 9:22 p.m., the game was delayed for lightning. That's 30 minutes on the clock!

PV did little with their drive after the turnover, but got a big push when the punt took a Panther bounce and started the Demons back on their own 26. A first down incomplete pass and a short gain on second down as the clock winds down to under 4 minutes in the third quarter. Fancher nearly broke free for a big gain but was tripped up a yard shy of the first down. The Demons got that first down on the following play and may be better suited just wearing down PV's defensive line. Fancher and Harms are moving the ball effectively as the clock winds down in the third.

And then the teams left the field....

Meantime, FHS leads Los Lunas 26-11 in the fourth quarter.

9:09 p.m. -- Durango's running game appears to be − again − getting some push up front from their offensive line. The Demons have gotten positive yards on several consecutive running plays. When Harms drops back to pass, the Panthers have made it difficult for him to find open receivers.

No... I refuse to see the lightning in the distance. It's not really out there.

Back to the game... Jaxson Fancher nearly went the distance, but he lost control of the ball at the 15 yard line, and PV recovers, dodging a bullet with 6:48 to go in the third.

9:02 p.m. -- On the opening drive of the second half, the Panthers got the lead when Howell found Dax Vigil breaking free of his defender in the middle of the field for a 40-yard touchdown pass. A great pass and catch to open the half, and PV has a 14-7 lead with 9:45 to go in the third.

8:33 p.m. -- Inside the final two minutes of the half, the Panthers got the ball from their own 40 and pushed it into the redzone, thanks to a great pass reception from Hunter Schwartz. On a halfback option pass to the end zone, the Demons came up with an interception with 26.3 seconds remaining, negating a big opportunity for the Panthers.

The Demons opted to run out the clock and will kick off to the Panthers to start the second half. The score remains tied at 7.

Meantime, other scores:

BLOOMFIELD leads Grants 43-0 at the half.

MORIARTY leads Newcomb 26-0 (3rd quarter)

BAYFIELD leads Aztec 7-6 at the half.

8:22 p.m. -- Durango's running game is starting to get a little room off the edges. Both teams continue to be their own worst enemy from time to time on silly procedural penalties. Trey Valdez made a great play on the defensive side, bringing down Harms to force a fourth and 22 from inside Durango's own 15 yard line.

8:11 p.m. -- On Durango's ensuing possession, the Demons drove right down the field and scored when quarterback Tyler Harms split the corner to find the end zone from 6 yards out. The PAT made it 7-7 with 6:17 left in the half.

8:03 p.m. -- Got loads of good photos, but we had no score through the end of the first quarter.

Both teams traded possessions, loaded with procedural penalties on both sides before the quarter ended.

The Panthers took advantage of a Durango fumble in Piedra Vista territory early in the second, driving the ball into the red zone inside the 9-minute mark of the second quarter. Jacob Ramsted bursted up the middle from 4 yards out to give the Panthers an early 7-0 lead.

Meantime, Bloomfield leads Grants 28-0 early in the second quarter.

6:55 p.m. -- And as the clouds have moved on and the wind has settled down, we are now a bit more than 30 minutes away from kickoff. 6:05 p.m. update -- The start time for tonight's homecoming game between Piedra Vista and Durango has been pushed back to 7:30 p.m. because clouds and wind arrived right around 6 p.m.

Players to watch

Durango

Durango will feature a number of offensive stars, namely running backs Jeric Baruch, Jaxon Fancher and Haber. Those three combined to rush for more than 130 yards on 21 carries in the win over Farmington. Fancher, JJ Hoerl and AJ Folk each caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Harms in last week's victory as well.

Piedra Vista

Piedra Vista's Dax Vigil, Logan Howell and Zach Mora-Dotson all will be counted on to contribute tonight. Vigil has excelled on both sides of the ball, while Howell and Mora-Dotson have been strong with their efforts in the running game.

A Little History

Piedra Vista will be looking to go 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2016. Ironically, that year, two of those first three victories came against Farmington and Durango.
