Centennial's Tess Fuqua (1) is a University of Arizona commit and was last year's volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year.

LAS CRUCES - Centennial senior volleyball player Tess Fuqua was named New Mexico's Gatorade Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Fuqua is Centennial's first player to be named the Gatorade Player of the Year. The 6-foot outside hitter had 621 kills and 231 digs this season, leading the Hawks (19-7) to the Class 6A state quarterfinals. Fuqua also tallied 34 service aces and 32 blocks, posting a .445 kill percentage and a .307 hitting percentage on the attack. Fuqua finished her high school championship with the 2020 state championship and 1,511 kills.

Fuqua has maintained a weighted 3.77 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to playvolleyball on scholarship at the University of Arizona this fall.
