Trevor Rogers made the most of his first game in the MLB, throwing four scoreless innings, striking out six batters, walking five and holding off the Mets until the Marlins offense got on the board in the fourth inning.

Rogers won't get credit for the win because he was taken out of the game when it was still a 0-0 tie. Still, he showed he can compete in the big leagues. Twice in the game Rogers had runners in scoring position but he didn't allow a single run, stranding six runners in his outing.

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reached out to friends, family, former teammates of Rogers and members of Carlsbad's community to get their thoughts on his first game with the Miami Marlins.

Mike Rogers, Trevor's father

Trevor Rogers' family watches his MLB debut on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020. Rogers threw four scoreless innings for the Miami Marlins, allowing the team to get a 3-0 win.

"He proved to me and he proved to everybody that he can play ball in the major leagues."

Torie Rogers, Trevor's sister

"I've been watching him since he was four years old. This is very surreal for me. I'm so incredibly proud of him and what he's accomplished. I'm super excited to see him and watch his career. In high school whenever he got himself into a pickle he always worked through it. He never got frustrated. He's really good at keeping his composure and he knows he can go out there and do it. When he gets into those situations he just works through it. He never walks off the field with his head down."

John Lowe, City of Carlsbad City Administrator

"What an impressive first outing for Trevor Rogers. He looked calm and confident on the mound last night. This is a great new chapter in the incredible history of Cavemen baseball."

Ryan Razo, high school teammate

"He did good. Those five walks he had were all missing within six inches of the zone. He stayed composed. He didn't get rattled or too absorbed in the moment. He just missed by a little. It wasn't a command issue it was just being a little out of the zone. There's not much else you could ask for for a debut."

Steve Garza, high school coach

Steve Garza, a friend and teammate of Shane Andrews, talks during Friday's Carlsbad Hall of Fame Induction.

"Typical Trevor. In high school I never remember him getting in trouble. It was awesome to see the moment didn't overtake him. That was neat. Four scoreless innings is a great way to start your MLB career."

Mason Estrada, high school catcher

Carlsbad's Mason Estrada swings through a pitch against Artesia. He hit a stand-up triple for Carlsbad.

"Last night I don't think he was missing his spots by much. He was getting squeezed a little by the umpire. I thought he did well, all in all. I remember in the state championship game we had bases loaded and one out. He went up 3-0 on a guy and ended up striking him out and getting 2 strikeouts in a row. Trevor battled his way back just like yesterday."

Will Garza, high school teammate

Will Garza turns on the afterburners rounding third base to score during Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against Clovis. Carlsbad won Game 1, 15-5 and Game 2, 9-0.

"He showed what he could do and how good he really is. He always kept his composure even when he was struggling. My favorite inning was his first inning because he dominated. You could see the emotion on him. He looked great and confident."

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway speaks during a Veterans Day ceremony, Nov. 9, 2019 in Carlsbad.

"All of Carlsbad was tuned in Tuesday evening as Trevor Rogers made his debut in the Majors. He was poised and professional, and we just want to congratulate Trevor and his family on a great first game."
