Kirk confirmed as tribe's financial manager

FARMINGTON — Navajo lawmakers have confirmed the appointment of Pearline Kirk as the tribe's top financial officer, according to a press release from the Office of the Speaker.

Kirk is a certified public accountant. She was appointed this month by Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye. As the tribe's controller, she will oversee finances and investments, as well as manage the Office of the Controller.

According to the press release, Kirk addressed the Navajo Nation Council and told delegates her educational background and professional experience will help her fulfill the role. She added she wanted to return home and give back to the tribe after working in other states and tribal governments.

The release states she previously worked with the Navajo Minerals Department, the Navajo Nation Department of Justice and the Office of Navajo Tax Commission.

Kirk is a member of the Navajo Nation and is originally from the Kin Dah Lichíí Chapter in Arizona.

During the council discussion, Delegate Otto Tso complimented Kirk for her ability to speak the Navajo language and asked that she support economic development projects, the release states.
