Home Depot and Community of Hope provide shelter for homeless area veterans

Community Snapshot: On Saturday, Nov. 2, The Home Depot Foundation partnered with the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope to provide outdoor shelters for homeless veterans in the Las Cruces area. More than 50 members of Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force, supported the project on their day off. MVCH offers tented shelters for homeless veterans at Camp Hope, the organization’s transitional living community. Currently, about 50 homeless persons reside at Camp Hope, ranging in age from 25 to 65 years old. The community needed additional structures around the tents to give veterans more shade, protection from weather and dignified privacy as MVCH works to move the veterans into permanent housing. This project in Las Cruces was part of The Home Depot Foundation’s ninth annual Celebration of Service season to improve the homes and lives of U.S. military veterans and aid communities affected by natural disasters. To submit an item for community snapshot, email photo and information to news@lcsun-news.com.
