LAS CRUCES – Two people are dead, and one is in jail after a three-vehicle crash in Chapparal.

Patrick James Woods, 37, was charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of leaving the scene of a crash, resisting arrest, open container, and failure to give immediate notice of a crash.

According to a criminal complaint, Jose Marrero and Desiree Seanez died in the wreck. The complaint also says the crash occurred on Jan. 17, near Highway 213, around 5:25 p.m.

Court records indicate Woods was driving a Jeep down the highway when he slammed into a Toyota Scion carrying Marrero and Seanez. Police believe Woods then drove away from the area before a border patrol helicopter spotted him as he was trying to seek medical attention.

Woods is currently being held in jail after prosecutors with the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s office requested a judge order a no-bond hold. However, that hearing has not yet been scheduled as of the publication of this article.
