LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces may have seen the last 100-degree day this season, according to the National Weather Service, as a cold front moves into the area Tuesday evening and temperature highs settle in the 80s.

Anthony Brown with the NWS out of Santa Teresa said Monday or Tuesday may be the last 100-degree day this summer. He said the historic record high for Tuesday was 100 degrees in 1992, and temperatures today will get close to that record.

“I can’t say that with 100% certainty, but it’s looking more and more that either yesterday or today is the last 100 of the season,” Brown said Tuesday morning.

A cold front will start moving into the area Tuesday evening, dropping the high temperature into the 70s through Thursday. Temperatures Friday and into the weekend are forecasted to be in the 80s.

This near 30-degree drop in temperature is not necessarily out of the ordinary, according to Brown, who said these drops happen a couple times a year. However, he said the variation this week “is maybe a little bit more dramatic than what (the area is) used to, but it’s certainly not that unusual.”

Brown said there is a good chance for rain Tuesday and Wednesday, with localized flooding possible. He reminded people not to drive through flooded roadways, especially when the depth cannot be determined.
