Ground laid for new apartment complex on Roadrunner. Here's what we know about the project.
LAS CRUCES – A swath of open land and desert brush on N. Roadrunner Parkway is now in the opening stages of a new construction project the developer confirmed to be a future apartment complex.
The development is south of the Copperstone Apartments and north of the city Veterans Memorial Park, a short distance from the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course.
The land is owned by Wilfred E. "Eddie" Binns, a longtime Las Cruces homebuilder, Realtor and businessman. According to county records, Binns holds approximately 25 acres across four contiguous parcels.
In an April interview with the Las Cruces Bulletin, he listed a 270-unit apartment complex among his current projects.
Reached by phone Tuesday, Binns confirmed that the development on Roadrunner was "an apartment project" but when asked for the number of units planned he answered, "There'll be a bunch of them."

He also said a timeline for completion of the project was not certain.
Binns held an additional parcel adjacent to the park which was part of a land-exchange with the City of Las Cruces, when it planned to expand parking at the memorial, as reported by the Las Cruces Sun-News in 2017.
Binns, who has developed numerous properties on Roadrunner, said the complex underway would be "top flight" and promised, "What we're going to do is first class."
