Three New Mexico singers were chosen to audition for “American Idol” during a karaoke competition at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair Sept. 10.

Fair organizers announced a month ago that they had partnered with the popular singing competition show “American Idol” to bring New Mexico singers together and find three who would go on to virtually audition for show producers.

“American Idol is iconic and with auditions already happening, we figured why not bring it to the State Fair,” fair general manager Dan Mourning said in a news release.

The karaoke-style competition was held Sunday, Sept. 10 on Expo New Mexico’s Chevron Pavilion Stage. The New Mexico State Fair Idol Competition was limited to 20 people and was produced by Call Me Ozz Karaoke.

According to the news release, each contestant sang a song of their choice and the top three were chosen to move forward with a virtual VIP audition with one of the show’s executive producers.

“These singers have earned a unique opportunity and we have high hopes that they may go on to represent New Mexico on the American Idol stage,” Mourning said in a news release.

The top three singers were:

  • Alyssa Johnstun of Rio Rancho
  • Noah Doyle of Albuquerque
  • Jenna Thunborg of Sandia Park
